Great Summertime Snack, 100 calories

Put a little cup of grapes or cherries in the freezer for about 15 minutes, then sprinkle onto some Greek yogurt or munch on alone and slip away into ultimate bliss.. yum. The protein from the yogurt and fiber from the fruit will you keep you full and happy :) Plus the frozen fruit will cause the yogurt to harden, making a frozen yogurt.

Repetitive Meals as a Means of Weight Loss
What a depressing ass way to lose weight! I’m NOT on board.
In a study by the University of Buffalo, test participants were given 125 calorie portions of macaroni and cheese, with their choice of as much side portions as they wanted. One group was given the serving once a week, the other group once a day. The results showed that the group who had the macaroni and cheese once a week increased their caloric intake by 100 calories.
I’m all for monitoring my portion sizes, but gosh, I need a little variety in my diet, ya know?

10 calories - Strawberry Lemon Iced Smoothie

HELLS yeah! Inspired by the summer heat, I’m always thinking of iced drinks- healthy of course!
Ingredients:
- 5-6 frozen strawberries
- 26oz of zero sugar lemonade drink mix (I used Crystal Light’s Natural Lemonade)
- ice cubes
Make the lemonade and combine in a blender with strawberries and ice cubes. Blend. Enjoy on a hot summer day! Makes 2 servings- high in Vitamin C and Potassium.

Iced COFFEE!
It certainly has become all the rage. In an ABC article, “60 percent of iced coffee is consumed at breakfast, 20 percent is treated as a snack, 13 percent of sales are for lunch and 4 percent for dinner”.
Personally, I’m a McDonald’s iced coffee fan. It tastes good, is inexpensive, and plus I’m addicted to caffeine anyways so they can take my money, what do I care.
In terms of nutritional benefit, Harvard School of Public Health has found caffeine (in forms of coffee or tea) to correlate with reducing the risk of Type II Diabetes, prevent gallstones, and lower the risk of heart disease. Sounds good to me.

10 Calories - Simple Salsa (Mild)

Salsa is pretty much my lifeblood. Here’s a super easy authentic salsa recipe- great on tacos, salad toppers, even sandwich spreads.
Ingredients
- 5 beefsteak tomatoes
- 1/4 onion (red or white)
- 1 cup chopped cilantro
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 lime
- 1/2 tablespoon dried oregano
- 5 jalapenos
Cut the tomatoes into wedges of 8 and mince the onion (for easier blending). Cut the jalapenos in half and remove seeds. Combine everything else in the blender and squeeze the lime to release just the juice. Blend on high for about 10 seconds. Fin!

For an alternative to salty tortilla chips, cucumber slices make a great substitution.
Sweet Jesus- why Americans are morbidly obese!

Gotta say, never been a fan of the donut that much- there’s so many other mouthwateringly delicious delights I’d rather indulge in. The donut, invented in 1847, turns 164 this month.
Topping this donut are strips of bacon and bananas. I was NOT surprised to find out it’s made by Ike&Jane restaurant ATLANTA, one of the most obese cities in the US.
^Is this really necessary?? I think I got diabetes just by looking at this picture.

Sunshine Oatmeal

Oranges and oatmeal. Funky? It’s actually rather tasty!
- 1/2 cup quick/rolled oats
- 1/2 orange
- 1+1/2 cups water
- Optional: honey, raisins, cinnamon

Cut the orange slices into pieces- this way the pulp is exposed so the juice can permeate. Combine the oatmeal, orange, and water in a bowl and microwave oatmeal on high for two minutes. We like to add honey and cinnamon. Excellent with raisins- yum!
